Montatura Meade LXD75

In a previous article I talked about the LXD75 series, taking into consideration the Newtonian optical tube 150 mm, but today I will speak of the frame.
As previously mentioned this series is equipped with a Meade optical tubes, 2 refractors (127 and 150 mm) a newton (150 mm) 3 Schmidt-Newton (150 mm 200 mm and 250 mm) and SC (200 mm) . All these tubes are supported Optical Frame series of the same name, the LXD75.
The frame is this a good white color, while the electric motors for the movement of the axes, unlike the EQ6, are external and enclosed in plastic receptacles nera.Il tripod is made of steel, height adjustable from 74cm to 115 cm, good solid construction and quite comparable to the one supplied with the mount HEQ5.
The frame is then sold under a counterweight to range from 5 Kg
the field assembly is very fast and simple, the mount will attach to the tripod quickly. Note that unlike the EQ6, the bar counter is separable from the frame and you should assemble and disassemble at every point, however, the operation is very fast. The station
polar alignment is facilitated by an excellent polar scope illuminated after previous collimation.
The mount comes with Autostar computer 497 which contains about 30,000 objects in its database, once started is requested date, time and location from which you observe. Shall then be aligned with 1.2 or 3 stars that are selected from the database on their own. The stars have always been required in the field of view eyepiece ever made, though in a couple of occasions, Vega was not and was centered off the court even Finder.
Once you are ready to align itself and the observation is possible through the station.
In the evenings in which I used the mount , Has always taken quite accurate in pointing stars and deep sky objects, still in the field of eye 26 mm. In the episode
solar system objects, instead I found a few problems, in fact, sometimes the planet was not present in the eyepiece, but noting with seeker was possible to center the desired object.
With the bus and can run the Best Of Night, a tour where the telescope will point the most beautiful objects to be observed during the night.
The specimen in my possession has been taken very good, with a precision in discrete and periodic error discreet about + / - 25.
The frame can be connected to the PC through the bus and so can run the guider, although it is much more uncomfortable than the EQ6 where the door is compatible ST4 guider.

Summing this LXD 75 is not at all disappointed me, in viewing tube is suitable to carry up to 10 kg, the vibrations are damped in about 2 / 3 seconds, while in photography began to suffer a great deal already with a C8. Other than that I have to say that the station is really well done and easy to use.
Among the things that I did not like the noise is definitely from engines during their movement, really uncomfortable (like a tractor) The screws of the clutches are then put into uncomfortable positions, and in particular breakers go to interfere with the movement of the axes.

The tray is placed objects too high and large eyepieces or accessories, such as the Baader Hyperion can not be housed in the glove compartment.

Council also adopt an external 12V battery for extended use, as the case leads series contains a few batteries and the duration is limited.

Meade LXD75 6" F5

The LXD75 is a line of products, American Meade, including differing views, we start from 6 inches Newton up to a 10-inch Schmidt-Newton, going for a classic 8-inch SC. All these optical tubes are supported by a specially built frame from Meade. This review is only on the optical instrument Newton 6 inch, while the frame will speak of another review.

Newton diagram is very famous and needs no explanation. The optical tube comes with a nice white color, made of aluminum. The support of primary and secondary mirror are black aluminum, as well as the focuser. The tube
impresses some care of implementation and for the strength that it returns.
The primary mirror has an aperture of 6 inches equivalent to 150 mm, the focal length is 768 mm, the resulting instrument with a focal F5.

tool in my possession was a friend of mine, which is not using it more, I was pretty nice, and initially I had to run a general collimating optics. Once you've found that perfect collimation in several nights of use did not have to collimate the instrument if not the first 2 times because of the non-tightness of the collimation screws secondary, but this is due to my negligence. The tool, I immediately became quite good.
Focuser by then considerable satisfaction, in fact, supports both eyepieces is 31.8 mm by 50.8 mm (2 inches), further adjustment is very precise, in a moment is the focal point, a sign of very good mechanics.

Unfortunately I used this while I was still young and I still did not have the experience to judge perfettamente.Solo during the evening of the eclipse, 20 February 2008, I dusted off this tool, because its short focal length is ideal for resume full moon, and I found many of its features that I had escaped. Surely
I've hit the focuser, very precise and fluid, and set fire to reach the exact result is really easy, then the contrast of the images I was very positively impressed.

I used the tool during the summer and autumn, being able to observe Jupiter for the first time. I was able to observe Jupiter in evenings only seeing bad, about 4-5/10,
with the eyepiece of the instrument series, 4000 series Ploss a 26 mm, Jupiter is visible with its four Galilean moons. Going with I came to see enlargements equatorial bands but fail to distinguish accurately.
the moon I pushed the instrument to 400x with the hyperion 3.5 mm and barlow 2x a night with good seeing (7 / 10), again finding a high-contrast images without losing sharpness, but of course this depends on the seeing.
tool, as then all the Newtons, then considerable coma suffering, evident when looking at the stars. I have not done tests on deep-sky objects, which I plan to do more presto.Ho finally noticed that in wet evenings you have a tendency to tarnish the primary mirror, as well as the range finder, a 5x30, not particularly high performance.

Orion Atlas EQ-G Goto

The Orion is an American company that manufactures both tube and optical accessories for several years as a manufacturer of said previously I was able to buy his product, a seeker 9x50 diagonal that it has been found to be really great achievement is very good optics. After I informed both on the internet and from my dealer, I decided to change my mount, Meade LXD75, with a higher category. The frame is so chosen was a EQ6, as made of Orion. My
Orion Atlas EQ-G Goto is therefore the equivalent of the Chinese SkyWatcher EQ6 and uses micro-motors, since version 3.20 and with SynScan computer, which allows enough fluid motion which is ideal for maximum precision tracking. My Orion, like all the EQ6 is with a port for the guider compatible with all protocols currently available, which makes it very enjoyable for you to shoot deep sky too long and very long exposure.

The frame is then provided with a very solid tripod with 2-inch diameter pipe which is also the ideal place to hold weights of 20 kg of equipment. The body of the frame is very heavy, about 17 kg, but is not a defect, in fact resulting from the heaviness remarkable rigidity and stability impeccable, all important qualities for an amateur.
The finishes are well done though not so perfect as the frames of the upper class but are more expensive.
Having to make a preliminary assessment prior to field test it, watching it mounted is extremely positive.

the field, you will immediately appreciate the ease of installation, everything is perfectly ready in minutes. The next step is the stationing of the frame through the polar scope illuminated reticle which are represented in the position of the pole star than the north polar and two constellation of Cassiopeia and Ursa Maggiore, it is quite simple and that with the experience to run a station you arrive at quite precise.
Once on the mount are beginning to use computers and SynScan after setting the date, time and coordinates of where you are you are ready to do the alignment. The alignment point is 1 to 3 stars, your choice.
The point of the star is still quite accurate, never beyond the range finder.

Once aligned the mount you can start the actual observational night, and I found a significant accuracy in the target stars and deep sky objects, a little 'less accuracy, however, when you point the planets, but never anything important, in fact, are still in the field of the finder.
Once the object it is always centered in the field, a sign of a great chase, which is verifiable through the planetary shots with the camera.
fact in these conditions, after a good station, you can keep the object in the field of view for several minutes.
This is very important with the shooting of the deep sky, that requires great precision, but also touches on the presence of the door dell'autoguida.
I did several tests, guider and the frame has always answered the final egregiamente. In Orion Atlas EQ-G Goto is a good frame, always with a very precise and very good stability, the timing of vibration damping are always very small. So I would recommend this to anyone looking for Orion mount to a pointing device and with a good load capacity.
